The Battle of Ashford was a battle fought during Rebelião de Robert between royal and rebel forces at Vaufreixo, the seat of Casa Ashford. Lorde Mace Tyrell de Jardim de Cima, Protetor do Sul, took the credit for the Loyalist victory, however Lorde Randyll Tarly had done nearly all the fighting.

Prelúdio

With the Terras da Tempestade united behind him, Lorde Robert left his brother Stannis to hold Ponta Tempestade and advanced west to Vaufreixo.[1] Ashford, located within the Campina, was sworn to Jardim de CimaHighgarden and was likely a loyalist holding. It is possible that Robert tried to take Vaufreixo to secure the Terras da Tempestade's western flank against the threat of Tyrells (who could muster the largest army in the realm), or he may have been outmaneuvered by Randyll Tarly.

Batalha

The battle occurred when the van of the Tyrell army under command of Lorde Randyll Tarly ran into Robert Baratheon's forces. Tarly's forces overran Robert's army, and Robert was forced to withdraw from the field before the main force of the Tyrell host had joined the battle.[2]

Former Targaryen loyalist Lorde Cafferen, who had joined the rebels after his defeat at the Batalha de Solarestival, was cut down by Randyll Tarly whilst fighting for Robert. Tarly had his head sent to Aerys II.[1] On the Reach side, one casualty of note was Lord Mace's cousin Sor Quentin Tyrell.

Consequências

The result of the battle was marked by Tyrion Lannister as inconclusive, thus it's likely the battle was not very large and Robert's forces remained relatively intact.[2] However, faced with the large numbers of the main Tyrell force, Robert had no choice but to withdraw from the Stormlands and attempt to link up with his allies in the north. To this end, he force-marched his troops north towards the Terras dos Rios. Robert's withdrawal from the Terras da Tempestade allowed the victorious Tyrell army to invade the Stormlands and lay cercar Ponta Tempestade held by Robert's brother Stannis Baratheon.
