Batalha dos Sinos

A Batalha dos Sinos ocorreu em Septo de Pedra, durante a Rebelião de Robert, entre forças reais, comandadas por Jon Connington, Mão do Rei Aerys II, e rebeldes, comandadas por Robert Baratheon. Foi assim chamada pois no começo da batalha, os sinos do septo da vila foram tocados para alertar os moradores da batalha, e para persuadi-los a ficar dentro de suas casas. A batalha foi vencida pelo exército rebelde, mas as forças reais puderam se retirar em boas condições.

Prelúdio

Após a derrota na Batalha de Vaufreixo, na fronteira entre as Terras da Tempestade e a Campina, Robert Baratheon se virou para o norte. Muito provavelmente buscava juntar-se a seus aliados, os Starks, Tullys e Arryns. Não se sabe o que aconteceu entre Vaufreixo e Septo de Pedra, mas durante o percurso Robert foi ferido e escondeu-se de seus perseguidores no septo da vila logo antes do começo da batalha.

Batalha

Quando Lorde Jon Connington ocupou a vila, ele ordenou a seus soldados começarem a vasculhar as casas a procura do líder rebelde; ainda não o haviam encontrado quando o exército combinado do Vale, Norte e Terras dos Rios alcançou Septo de Pedra. Os rebeldes atacaram as muralhas e o exército real, que respondeu ferozmente. Hoster Tully foi ferido por Connington, que também matou o primo e herdeiro de Jon Arryn, Denys. Ao mesmo tempo, os exércitos combatiam-se nas ruas, vielas e até nos telhados.

Neste ponto, Robert came out (probably with his followers) and led the counterattack. Robert slew Rhaegars friend and former squire Myles Mooton. Although this seemed to have turned the tide of the battle, Robert himself later maintained that Eddard Stark won it for him. Jon Connington realized the battle was lost and was able to retreat in good order.

Connington later regrets he did not burn the town in stead of ordering the search. He thinks that it would have killed Robert Baratheon. As this would have decided the rebellion it would have been worth the town's population who would have perished with Baratheon.

Aftermath

The retreat by Jon Connington seems quite a feat due to the fierce fighting and the location (town, house to house fighting) would make it hard to hold the army together. Nevertheless it did not impress King Aerys who had Connington exiled and seized his lands for his failure to deal with rebels. However, this defeat forced King Aerys to realize that Robert was no mere outlaw lord to be crushed at whim, but the greatest threat House Targaryen had faced since Daemon Blackfyre.

At the Battle of the Trident the rebels were on the North bank. Robert was fleeing North when trapped in Stoney Sept.

After the battle King Aerys sent Jonothor Darry and Barristan Selmy to Stoney Sept to rally what they could of the loyalist forces.
