"Ajoelhadores" é a forma que os povos livres chamam aqueles que vivem nos Sete Reinos ao sul da Muralha. Eles consideram isso um termo depreciativo, já que ajoelhar-se é uma posição de submissão.

Para Lá da Muralha, o pessoal livre se ajoelha para nenhum homem, enquanto os ajoelhadores estão sujeitos a senhores e reis. O povo livre vê os ajoelhadores como sem liberdade, , enquanto os povos dos Sete Reinos vêem os "selvagens" como assassinos, estupradores e ladrões selvagens, sem lei e primitivos.
